One of Wales' longest established catering companies is reporting a significant increase in business turnover as corporate clients go back to the boardroom to entertain.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Cardiff-based hospitality specialist – Spiros Catering - says that its clients including banks and financial institutions are saving on venue hire costs and holding functions in their own offices.

The company, which this year completed a six-figure investment in refurbishing its purpose-built 200-seater function facility and headquarters at St Peter's Hall Cardiff - says that the catering clock is being turned back as the recession bites.
Spiro Borg, Managing Director of the family-run business said: "Contrary to many expectations, the recession is actually benefiting the corporate catering side of our business and we are experiencing business levels up by nearly a quarter over last year.

This takes us back to our early years when boardrooms were equipped with their own kitchens and the finest cutlery and crystal prevailed. Rather than hiring hotel function rooms, many businesses are bringing in caterers, preferring to save their money. They are actually entertaining more people in-house than they could otherwise afford at an external venue."

The company is also enabling clients to stretch their food budgets further without penalising taste, with one of this year's corporate menu favourites being a Christmas dinner entirely served in canapé form.
